Dental Bridges
Dental bridges are helpful after losing one or several teeth as a result of age, decay or trauma. This routine option for tooth replacement restores tooth functionality and also improves the alignment of teeth while simultaneously enhancing oral health. Dental bridges are fixed dental pieces consisting of dental crowns that serve as a bridge between the gap in the mouth created by missing teeth. The dental bridges provided by Lohring Miller DMD really do look similar to regular teeth.
The placement of a dental bridge starts with a comprehensive dental exam to determine if you are a suitable candidate for the procedure. If necessary, a three-dimensional dental cone beam CT scan might be required to provide a clear view of the jaw structure and mouth. Your teeth adjacent to the missing tooth will be prepared and reshaped so the healthy teeth permit the dental crowns that serve to bridge the gap where the missing or extracted tooth was once positioned. This procedure involves slight tooth reshaping. However, you won’t feel pain as we use a local anesthetic to ensure you are completely comfortable.
If you are missing a single tooth, the dental bridge will consist of three units in the pontic that occupies the space between the adjacent teeth and the dental crowns. Those who have several missing teeth will require extra pontics and possibly even additional abutment teeth. A temporary bridge will be used until the permanent bridge is made in a dental lab. The crowns are carefully fitted and bonded to the teeth next to the open space and the pontic tooth is bonded within this space for optimal visual beauty and functionality.
